Autumn Events in the San Juan Islands

This post is provided as a supplement to our previous post about Orcas Island. Note that some of these events are not on Orcas Island. You can hop an inter-island ferry, free of charge, if you walk on or ride your bike.

October 1 thru 31 – Savor the San Juans: A Month-long Medley of Farms, Food & Arts.
Throughout October, all three main islands – Lopez, Orcas and San Juan – will be hopping with new and favorite harvest-season events, including wine dinners, farm tours, cooking classes, Artstock and Oktoberfest, a fall farm parade and chili cook-off, and more. Sunday, October 26, 2014 – Bite of the San Juan Islands.
This gathering will showcase the amazing quality of farmers, food producers and chefs we have in the San Juan Islands. Chefs will partner with farmers and food producers to create tasty bites featuring island grown/produced ingredients including cheeses, meats, produce and seafood. Guests will taste and purchase these delicious locally produced foods as well as island-made wine, beer, cider and beverages. Bite of the San Juan Islands will be held on Sunday, October 26, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Brickworks in Friday Harbor.

Friday_Harbor_Film_festOctober 10-13, 2014 – The first annual Orcas Island Film Festival – Off the Edge (OIFF).
This film festival takes place in the arts-rich village of Eastsound and beyond including the Orcas Center, Sea View Theater and the Music Room at the historic Rosario Mansion. The festival will focus on films of the avant-garde, art house, trans-media and emerging edge film culture from around the world; featuring the most progressive directors, stories, techniques and ideas. Wishing to draw on the experience of professionals, OIFF is working with the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF). SIFF is recognized as one of the top film festivals in North America. www.orcasfilmfest.com

November 7 – 9, 2014 – On San Juan Island, the second annual Friday Harbor Film Festival – Stories from the Pacific Rim (www.fhff.org), carries forward the momentum of an impressively successful inaugural event last year. Films that: “Entertain – Inspire – Enlighten” viewers about the cultures and environment of the Pacific Rim and at least two premier screenings, are planned.
